The devices present at OBT and Golfview are not sufficient for a quiet zone. Typically two gates are needed on each side of the street on both sides of the railroad in order to qualify for a quiet zone. This treatment, while much more costly, physically prevents inadvertent wrong-way crossings when the gates are down. In turn, that removes most but not all requirements for trains to use the horn.

We have been working for years to get the funds and design to install quiet zones along the busier SunRail corridor within Orlando and are finally getting to the point of installation. While we have no plans for installing a quiet zone at Golfview, we are working with FDOT on possible changes for this crossing in the future.

I regret that you hear horns in the middle of the night but these are an important safety feature and will continue to be in place at this location for the foreseeable future. If changes are made to the crossing, then the public will be made aware.
