The trees were removed as part of the Main St Improvements project. This block was postponed in 2017 due to the planned future development of the Amegy parking garage at 1900 Main; however, the garage is now being built in the 1800 block of Main. Replying to Keith, yes, let's cut down all the old beautiful trees to build another parking garage while telling people to stop driving and to stay home. Makes perfect sense when developers control the city.

Keith, what size trees will be planted and why was it necessary to cut down the existing trees?
