Why was this issue open?

The question should be regarding public or private ownership of this plaza space. If this is city-owned property, it's a reasonable constitutional question as to why is public space being made available for religious signage and idolatry absent active religious assembly. Was this same opportunity afforded to members of the Jewish faith for Passover? Ramadan is coming up, so are Muslims invited to display tokens of their faith in this plaza? What about Pagans for Summer Solstice? This is a particularly fair challenge considering the events that transpired in the ACLU v Schundler case.

This issue is particularly relevant if this is city-owned property given the case of ACLUNJ v Schundler.

There is always something religious there, though not usually this ostentatious. And no, we don't all need to believe. That is very much the point.

Believe what you want to believe, but not everyone needs to. Thanks.

There was huge 6-foot menorah during hanukkah, there always have been religious symbols there during major holidays.

Freedom of expression! This little park always has some type of public/community. art or even religious expression. As long as there is nothing offensive directed at anyone and the offering is not vandalism or graffiti. I dont mind. I encourage and value public expression. I dont believe the goings on in this little public square/garden should succumb to the authority of our civic stewards. That would indeed be a sad expression of authority and our public officials have better things to do!
