Description
The 3am train horns are out of control. Last year on request #5652409 it was stated that Gilbert is working on becoming a quite zone for trains. The post stated that the repairs should be completed in 2020. Where do we stand on the issue today?

The Town is committed to completing an updated diagnostic report, which will help advance the request for a quiet zone. Some infrastructure upgrades have been made to date and this diagnostic report will provide a better understanding of the scope and cost to other areas. We thank you for your patience as we progress through the quiet zone process.
Thank you,
Casey Ambrose

We aren’t going to let this go, so might as well follow through on your promise to make us a quiet zone like everyone else in the east valley

Hi, neighbors!
Unfortunately, the rail line is not the property of Gilbert and therefore we have no authority to adjust operations from Union Pacific and no jurisdiction to make changes without meeting federal regulations. There are studies that need to be done that are required for us to designate this, and any other areas, as quiet zones because there are safety, traffic control, and visibility requirements that need to be met regarding both the infrastructure and the equipment at these areas before we can even submit a request. Currently, these areas do not meet those requirements as set by the federal government. In order for them to meet the requirements so that we may submit for this designation, the construction projects and equipment changes need to be assessed, scoped, budgeted, and completed while minimizing the effects of any traffic and routing changes that would need to be made to accommodate this.
While I realize that this doesn't resolve your issue, I do hope that it explains why these areas are not yet designated as quiet zones during the late evening and early morning hours. This is a complex concern that requires input and approval from several different stakeholders and levels of organizations. I can assure you that we are working towards the end goal of making these areas quiet zones but, unfortunately, there are certain milestones that are not within our control.
Thank you again for reaching out and for using Gilbert 311.

Hi, Donovan!
This is not a funding issue, it is a jurisdictional issue. Gilbert is currently working with all parties involved in an attempt to move this forward.

Hi Lori, the Town is still in the review period of reviewing and analyzing the assessment of costs and improvements for safety at railroad crossings and potential Quiet Zone improvements. This information will then be presented to Council for their recommendation. A council date has not been scheduled at this time.
While I realize that this doesn't resolve the issue, This is a complex concern that requires input and approval from several different stakeholders and levels of organizations. We appreciate your patience with the CIP project process.

Hi, new resident, any one who new to Gilbert.
If you saw my painful review, please do not rent or purchase house in gilbert. I am so regret that I did and want to move asap. The whole gilbert town has been haunted by train horn several times from 3am to 7am. No matter how far your house is from the train track, the train will horn for several minutes until you wake up. My house is 2 mile from train track.
This issue will not be addressed as you can see here. Gilbert government is not care about its residents. There are a lot of videos or news if you search in public media talking about this issue year after year. Funds are put anywhere except this, such as the new road near my house, the new and big road got rebuilt unneccessary for no reason month after month.
Please consider the nearby town for living if you just move here.
Sincerely
Clay (Registered User)
What is the latest on this issue? If you read this through thread that started in 2020, the narrative for the last 3 years is the town is reviewing the findings of the study. It can't take that long for something like that. I think a hearing in order so the town understands just how much the residents care about this topic.

Hello Clay, Thank you for reaching out and inquiring on this ticket. The Town is continuing to move forward on this project. The project manager went to town council on 6/20/23 and was approved to add additional items to the scope of the project to ensure all critical information is gathered for the Quiet Zone assessment before presenting to the council. This was not a presentation on findings, but a request to add additional items to the scope for the consultant to include in the study. The first draft of the updated study is currently being reviewed by Town Staff.
While I realize that this doesn't resolve the issue, This is a complex concern that requires input and approval from several different stakeholders and levels of organizations. We appreciate your patience with the CIP project process.

Hi, neighbors:
I've reached out to our teams internally to get an update on this. This is an important request for the Town but, as mentioned in the past, this property is not owned by the Town and so we cannot make progress on our own. This project involves multiple stakeholders and property owners and we are working diligently to move this project forward.
We appreciate your patience. Please know that we are working to resolve this request.
