Description
The 3am train horns are out of control. Last year on request #5652409 it was stated that Gilbert is working on becoming a quite zone for trains. The post stated that the repairs should be completed in 2020. Where do we stand on the issue today?

The Town is committed to completing an updated diagnostic report, which will help advance the request for a quiet zone. Some infrastructure upgrades have been made to date and this diagnostic report will provide a better understanding of the scope and cost to other areas. We thank you for your patience as we progress through the quiet zone process.
Thank you,
Casey Ambrose

We aren’t going to let this go, so might as well follow through on your promise to make us a quiet zone like everyone else in the east valley

Hi, neighbors!
Unfortunately, the rail line is not the property of Gilbert and therefore we have no authority to adjust operations from Union Pacific and no jurisdiction to make changes without meeting federal regulations. There are studies that need to be done that are required for us to designate this, and any other areas, as quiet zones because there are safety, traffic control, and visibility requirements that need to be met regarding both the infrastructure and the equipment at these areas before we can even submit a request. Currently, these areas do not meet those requirements as set by the federal government. In order for them to meet the requirements so that we may submit for this designation, the construction projects and equipment changes need to be assessed, scoped, budgeted, and completed while minimizing the effects of any traffic and routing changes that would need to be made to accommodate this.
While I realize that this doesn't resolve your issue, I do hope that it explains why these areas are not yet designated as quiet zones during the late evening and early morning hours. This is a complex concern that requires input and approval from several different stakeholders and levels of organizations. I can assure you that we are working towards the end goal of making these areas quiet zones but, unfortunately, there are certain milestones that are not within our control.
Thank you again for reaching out and for using Gilbert 311.

Hi, Donovan!
This is not a funding issue, it is a jurisdictional issue. Gilbert is currently working with all parties involved in an attempt to move this forward.

Hi Lori, the Town is still in the review period of reviewing and analyzing the assessment of costs and improvements for safety at railroad crossings and potential Quiet Zone improvements. This information will then be presented to Council for their recommendation. A council date has not been scheduled at this time.
While I realize that this doesn't resolve the issue, This is a complex concern that requires input and approval from several different stakeholders and levels of organizations. We appreciate your patience with the CIP project process.
