The flashing light for the this intersection is still not repaired for months...The lights were installed for the hazardous intersection..the cars coming speeding off the hill on Glenwood street.. The flashing light helped give caution to drivers...SAFETY HAZARD ... Please repair ASAP...
I spoke to the DPW Director today. He assured me the post base and electrical lines have been removed and the area graded so its no longer a trip hazard. The flashing light was there because of the old Glenwood School. I do see your point about safety. The reverse "S" curve and the wide opening of Summer Street make it extremely hazardous given the speeds that people come around the blind bends. I am sure Bob Knox will see this and reply and/or kick it up for consideration by others.
I also took a ride by to see the finished work (not that I doubt Bob) and see the conditions. While I was there I witnessed two close calls in under two minutes. People really do fly around that bend.
Thanks for raising this issue , and follow up. Lived here many years.. These flashing lights are for the dangerous intersection . They never were intended for the old school. The school had separate 20 mph flashing lights further up Glenwood street that were removed years ago.. The island and flashing lights were installed for many car accidents due to having no warning lights to give drivers a warning.. So the city installed the lights....... It helped.. They should be repaired .. NOT removed... Dozens of near misses there everyday....a very serious accident could occur there due to having not having warning lights of the road hazard.. Speeding cars coming off the hill, around a blind corner is a danger.....maybe the state could take care of this ? Is the city not capable of repairing the lights?Thank you ..
Speeding aside, Summer street ends there; therefore it is an automatic stop for Summer St drivers, so Glenwood St travellers have the right of way. Light can help, but the close calls I have seen was from inpatient drivers driving North on Summer St and turning left onto Glenwood.
