Description
There is an abandoned auto on the even side of the street across from 15 Avon...car has been covered in snow for weeks! Please have towed so residents can have space for parking!! Also...tow everyone on odd side...supposed to be a parking ban. How are we supposed to get our street cleaned if lazy people do not move their cars!!

When one lives in a climate such as this and there is the possibility of snow, one needs to find a place off-street for the car in one's absence. In the case of illness or physical disability, one should pay someone, if possible, or at least ask for help. If an ambulance can't get down a street in an emergency, a car blocking the way is still a big problem, possibly life-threatening, whatever the reason it is there.

well said, neighbor.
just because someone may have a legitimate reason why it would be challenging to move their car, that does not mean they still don' t have a responsibility to do so. the priority is the safety and well being for all, not the convenience for some. the city has over thirty parking garages, let alone the scores of commuter lots just out of city limits.
this is also an issue on mechanic street (and obviously, city-wide) where several cars have not been moved since before the first storm this year.

If I am out of state, how would I get someone to move my car? O.o
And yes, there are people who leave weeks and months at a time for vacation, job, hospital stay, to help a sick relative. Again, I understand the frustration - but its just not always possible.

the point is, in those scenarios, you DON'T LEAVE YOUR CAR ON THE STREET DURING SNOW EMERGENCIES.
i am tired of hearing the excuses. our streets are barely passable, if that. and emergency vehicles struggle to get to citizens because of poor planning, or just plain laziness. make a plan with a neighbor or relative before such extenuating circumstances.

E, if someone has left town for only a few days, they probably know that serious weather is coming, and hopefully will move their car to a safe location beforehand, or as soon as they get back. If they're out of town for a long while, their car shouldn't be in one spot for that long anyway, so they should take care of it then.
Yeah, it sucks on a personal level, but owning a car means that it's your responsibility.

Unfortunately, on-street parking is the only availability. If I own a car and there is on-street parking without a meter, then I should be able to park there for as long as I like.
Again, instead of saying what cant/shouldnt be done, give solutions!

E, you can get a parking ticket for being in one spot for 72 hours or more.
So, if the problem is that there's a snowstorm coming and you don't want your car to be considered "abandoned," shovel/clean the car and move it as soon as possible. If you're going to be out of town, check the weather beforehand and either put the car someplace where it won't be an issue, or find a friend/family member/etc. to take care of it for you.

Has this car been moved or towed yet?
Can this case be considered "closed?"
