The owner, under our code of ordinances, has 15 days to respond to our NOV prior to any further action. There is an additional 30 day period where they are allowed time to initiate corrective action. If the deficiencies are corrected within this 45 day period we do not assess any fines.

Any update on thIs property? It has been 5 months.

There has been a great deal of work done over the past two months. The building has been painted and the owner has ordered replacement windows for the entire second floor. Window sills are being replaced. There is significant progress made. Please take a look at the progress made.

Seriously? I just drove by there this morning and took this photo. There has been one window replaced, one window is completely missing and rest are the same as the photo. Have you even been there?

The work is ongoing at this address. Code Enforcement is driven by a number of factors and being impatient doesn't speed things along.

You reported the issue and we have been working with the property owner. We appreciate your input, but our ordinance is steering the correction of this code issue. Please do not take out your frustration on my staff or on our government agency. We are working within the confines of the laws of this state and the limitations of our authority to require the building be brought up to an acceptable standard of appearance.

Planning and Economic Development Director:

Your enforcement officer closed the complaint, stating that all windows had been replaced. This was obviously not the case. Impatience on my part is not the problem. When our public servants make a statement such as “all windows have been replaced” and that is not the case, then a concerned citizen has every right to call them out on it. We citizens expect nothing more than standing code ordnance’s to be enforced according to law. I appreciate the work she is doing to help get years of neglect corrected. Just don’t close a case that has not been completed.

I received an automated reply that this has been open for 211 days and to comment or close the complaint. I’m still following it. Thanks for trying to keep Selma looking decent.

It has been 8 months now. Will this violation be allowed to stay on the books forever? Why hasn’t a completion date been set?

As a citizen of Selma . I need to butt in and say leave our CIVIL servants alone, quit pressuring people to do costly repairs during a pandemic, and go back to whatever you were doing nosy.
