The owner of 176 North Main Street (CCMD, LLC in Wallingford) has been VERY lax with keeping up with safe conditions of the property in terms of maintaining proper heat temperatures in the units and plowing the parking lot. Heat is included in rents. Last week, oil ran out and it took two days for the issue to be addressed. Several of the units cannot maintain a temperature of at least 60 degrees. Snow has been an issue, with the lot not being plowed or kept ice free. There are handicapped and elderly people in the building whose safety has been compromised because of this. Smaller cars are stuck in the lot because it is impossible to drive them up the incline to the road. During the last storm, phone calls to the property owner were ignored. His method of snow removal was doing nothing aside from shoveling a small foot-wide path to the front and rear entrances and throwing down an insignificant amount of sand and salt. The lot and walks were finally plowed by a private citizen who offered his services gratis, as there were several people who were snow-bound in the lot. The Building Department and Fire Departments, while sympathetic, have no jurisdiction. Taking the legal route in this weather will take too long. With the current storm on the way, someone WILL get hurt. Temperature-wise, if the units cannot maintain proper heat, it is a health hazard in addition to increasing the real possibility that pipes will break. Can someone PLEASE check into this and help?
