Heard them again by day today in the Porter Square area--there seem to be fireworks enthusiasts in many parts of Cambridge. I don't mind them, but I can see what a pain they must be in neighborhoods where they're going off at people's bedtimes. We live in a sleep-starved world, over-worked, pounded by noise. Fireworks aren't helping, especially as they sound like guns and scare some people. Why has this started up all of a sudden? Aren't they illegal in MA?

Think I have called every night at this point. This is beyond annoying, even more so as the police seem to know its always similar locations.

It is illegal for private citizens to use, possess, or sell fireworks in Massachusetts, or to purchase them legally elsewhere and then transport them into the state. The law prohibits any article designed to produce a visible or audible effect.
