Description

At the intersection of Grand Avenue and Front Street, when the Grand Avenue Bridge is open the traffic signal is a solid red in all four directions. Under normal circumstances this can cause unnecessary backups in either direction on Front Street. More worrisome, on Sunday (8-10-2008) the bridge was closed for repairs or maintenance for an extended period of time and the light was a SOLID RED in all directions. I can understand turning the (now) 3-way intersection into a blinking red in all directions - but forcing all traffic to break the law and run a red light is ridiculous. Some cars treated the situation like a stop sign (or blinking red) but far too many chose to simply drive through, barely slowing down. It's amazing that there wasn't an accident (or pedestrian fatality) during this time, especially considering there was a family event taking place in the Q-River Park which many people chose to walk to. Please fix this light before closing the bridge in the future!
