Description
The Phillip church streets intersection is difficult to navigate westbound on Phillip due to the short light cycle and narrow lane either side of Phillip St. Likelihood of incident accident possible to likely. Severity consequence moderate to high if a vehicle is involved. Action requested: create Parramatta's first bicycle basket (painted area for bicycles to wait at the front of the queue). According to the RMS Technical Direction (No. TDT 2009/06) on "Bicycle Storage Areas and Advanced Bicycle Stop Lines", bicycle storage areas and advanced bicycle stop lines must be preceded by a bicycle Lane. At present Phillip Street (immediately east of Church Street) provides 3.2m wide travel lane in the west bound direction and 6.9m wide lane in the eastbound direction. Wider travel lane in the eastbound direction has been provided so that buses can turn left from Church St into Phillip St without encroaching the westbound lane on Church St. Kerb realignemnt works may need to be carried out to install a bicycle lane at the intersection.
Anyway, Council will review bike plan next year and bicycle storage area in the CBD will be considered as part of the review.
