Love the picture! When people don't pick up after their dog(s), the waste remains, people step in it, the numerous fitness groups run through it, and it looks horrible all along the canal walk leading to Brown's Island. Maybe there also needs to be more dog pick up stations like the ones on Brown's Island.

Or maybe if someone is going to take the responsibility of being a dog owner, they need to pick up their own dog poop! That's part of the job! :)

Agreed! However, if we want visitors to continue to visit this part of Richmond during their stay, signs and available bags might help "clean up" the problem.

Honestly, I don't think it's a lack of bags, or signs or anything like that. It's lazy people who don't want to take personal responsibility for their pets and their own actions. It's not the poor dogs fault. I watched a girl let her dog poop RIGHT IN FRONT of Station 2 on Sunday. She watched her dog go to the bathroom and she just turned and walked away. She had a pit bull, too or I would have picked it up and thrown it at her.

11/6/2013 - Thanks so very much for your important communication with Richmond City government - this location has been discussed with Richmond Animal Care & Control and also Richmond Parks - Animal Control has noted without an officer seeing the violation it "may" be difficult to enact a fine for sidewalk pooping and not cleaning - the dispatcher is having the Officer review this situation regardless. Our Parks Rep noted poop-poop bags are placed in Richmond Parks but this function is sponsored and paid for by Parks Non-Profit Associates and Parks Mgmt will not be able to set poop-poop bags out for 1201 Haxall Point for pet owners to use. Our Parks Rep suggests that maybe the owner of 1201 Haxall Point "may" be able to consider keeping poop-poop bags on hand for residents or installing signage to remind residents/predestrians to clean up poop. If you can give a more detailed description to Animal Control or share a snapshot of the pet-owner and pet pooping without cleaning sidewalk it may help the Animal Control Officer (804-646-5573) to enforce a fine

This was not an issue for a specific address, 1201 Haxall, I was simply trying to put a "mark" on the map. Nor was I expecting the City to actually be there ticketing people. I posted this comment because the issue relates to the canal walk from the Christopher Newport monument all the way to Brown's Island. Its unsightly and is only getting worse. Not very inviving to visitors of RVA. If there were signs posted perhaps people would pick up behind their dogs.
