Can Salem look at the viability of partnering with say with Peabody to reduce our electric bills. National Grid along with the department of public utilities has allowed them to fee the cash away from us. The charge us to be a customer then charge massive transmission fees and “renewable” energy charge which I should be able to choose to pay or not, but then we still need to pay the electric supply that’s already $100 for low to medium usage. We let National Grid control the market here. One city over (Peabody) pays 1/4 for their electric bill, because they own their infrastructure. Why can’t we partner up with Peabody to cogenerate by building a gas turbine generator out say behind DPW where it is already industrial with a grant etc. We pay a lot in taxes and we deserve to live with lower energy bills.

AS FAR AS I KNOW SALEM HAS PURCHASED AGGREGATE POWER AND THE CITY GETS THE LOWEST RATE POSSIBLE WITHOUT RUNNING THEIR OWN MUNICIPAL LIGHT PLANT. ARE YOU SIGNED UP ON THE CITY AGGREGATE PLAN OR YOU PAYING ON YOUR OWN. PLEASE CONTACT THE ENERGY SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER FOR THE DETAILS. Long term viability with energy supply. National grid fees are extremely high for transmission charges. Especially for people with lower or fixed incomes that don’t meet the standard for assistance.
Part of this is grid sustainability that with the push for everything electric we need more quick start power availability. Wind turbines and solar are and extremely smart amount of our supply and are not 25 hour a day available. I am looking for the city to take proactive steps. A quick start natural gas turbine generator would be a great back up to our system.
Its great that we have footprints plant but we need to have redundant capabilities.
