An excellent cause! There is virtually NO enforcement of speeding laws. Do whatever it takes to slow down the speeders.
How about a sign that says "radar enforced" and an electronic sign showing one's speed? Try putting a motorcycle cop there once in awhile and maybe there'd be an effect.

When bike lanes are striped consider adding soft hit posts at the curves on MacArthur. Consider widening yellow center strip and putting in rumble strip in center similar to highway center lanes in safety corridors. These measures could help drivers stay in lanes, increase perception of narrowness to slow speeds, and improve safety.

I voted yes. I am a homeowner nearby Mills College, and I understand exactly what you mean. Unfortunately, I don't think that road qualifies for a speed bump- I really wish, I am incorrect. The best avenue that Public Works can do with a low budget is to put a "stop sign" and a walking "cross-walk sign."

Also, please help me write emails to the Chancellor of Mills College so they can add a side walk to its perimeter. After more than 100 years of establishment, it really important for them to take the initiative and add a sidewalk for the following reasons: nearby schools run on their "side walk," we need more light around the perimeter of the school (safety), trash can be easily be pick up, etc.

Please support me and help me write emails to the Chancellor and to the board.

Please clarify what you mean by the "perimeter" (of the college). Exterior, outside the fence is what I assume.
Would that be the stretch from Seminary Ave. to the Main gate? Can't remember if there are sidewalks on both sides of Seminary ABOVE the MacArthur intersection. Do we know if outside the fence is Mills property or City property?

My daughter goes to school at the charter school on Brann. The back entrance to the school is at Millsview so we often are driving out that way, trying to turn left onto MacArthur. It is nearly impossible, because people come speeding around the curve. I can't see them and they can't see me. a stop sign would definitely be safer!

Now there is a bike lane and one car lane. Unfortunately it does not slow down the cars, it's only worse now because the speeders drive in the bike lane to go around the drivers going the speed limit. I've almost witnessed a few bikes getting plowed down, fortunately the speeders saw the bikes at the last second and swerved out of the way. If the city does not slow the cars down than maybe they can put up cameras that send speeders tickets. Maybe that would eventually stop the speeders

Surely, something can be done here, City of Oakland. A little bit of ANYTHING is better than a whole lot of nothing.

I like the narrowing of the lane idea. That has proven to be very effective at reducing traffic speed. It will only work with soft posts guarding the bike lane from the traffic lane though. As my neighbors have pointed out, the speeders drive on the bike lane to pass. As a bicyclist on that route it is pretty scary to have cars speeding up behind me as though it is their lane.

Crossing intersection at Pierson Street (Shell gas station) and MacArthur Blvd. is very dangerous. Cars exiting onto MacArthur do quick “Hollywood” stops. Then, cars speeding on MacArthur passing Mills are driving 30-40 mph. I’ve lived here for 40 yrs and it’s gotten worse. I have aging parent drivers and a soon to be teenage driver and I don’t want them crossing that intersection.

being we are having a paving crisis, doubt this is going to happen and D6 member is not putting this on the radar.
I would think a maximum speed sign for the curve and a sign showing sharp curve up ahead (like on a turn where they show the truck tipping).
Then you can occasionally have police with speed gun just to enforce the sign put up.
Sign is the cheapest as again a starting deterrent.If that pops up enough, Folks will slow down.

There also should be a light going up the hill so its not such a dark curve.

Excellent cause. We need our city of Oakland to start implementing road infrastructures to prevent speeding and protect our neighborhoods

Now that we have a new City Council rep. (Loren Taylor) for 2019, this issue should be presented to him/his office. The 4-way stop at Seminary/Overdale ONLY took 5 years...THIS post is now 5 years old; what's taking so long!

Thanks, and I vote yes, a stop sign is sorely needed here. It is virtually impossible to cross the street there using the crosswalk, as cars do not slow down, and never stop for a pedestrian.

How time flies! 6 years later and the cars are still speeding and pedestrians aren't any safer!

They need red light cameras they don't stop for light or stop signs
