You don't have to wear a mask outside if you are six feet from someone.

Those police officers are definitely within six feet. Two of them were within 2 feet on one another and dozens of other people and both had their masks under their chins.

The mask order is not a law and that is why you will not see one person being written a ticket. The police have better things to do then bother people over masks.

It has been made VERY CLEAR both locally, statewide and as stated by the CDC that EVERYONE should be wearing masks. I am very disturbed to hear that CAMBRIDGE police are not all wearing masks! I have lived her for decades and have felt strong support for our policemen and women. But I fully agree with "anonymous" that this needs to be looked into immediately! I hope there will be a followup report from clickfix that will say who has been contacted and who is responsible for getting this message out to the entire Cambridge police force ASAP! Thank you!

Can't believe we are still arguing about masks in public, sigh.

It's hard enough to understand why there are still people not caring enough to wear masks but having the police ignore this requirement is really appalling! Hope this is being addressed immediately!

Thank you for your message. The Department amended its Facial Coverings requirements to reflect the amended City Emergency Order on face coverings July 1st. During the summer months (i.e. until September 22) masks or cloth face coverings may be temporarily removed by Officers and community members when outdoors and when a physical distance of at least 6 feet from others can be maintained at all times. Supervisors are expected to ensure that their Officers are adhering to the aforementioned order face covering rules. We have shared this information with the Commanding Officer for Patrol Operations for further review.

Maybe they are unable to wear a mask or face covering due to a medical condition. The police have not written one ticket in Cambridge. Get off your high horse about giving police tickets.

There is no legitimate medical condition which would prevent a person from wearing a mask which is legally required at all times while outdoors.

"CDC recommends that people wear masks in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain." Key word is "recommends!

Thank you Anonymous for following through on this issue. I agree with you that it is essential that Cambridge police follow the current state laws that require EVERYONE to wear masks. Sadly there are too many residents who don't realize how deadly this virus is. Also there is no medical information that people even in their 20's are getting Covid and that the symptoms can be quite varied and so many who have not died have suffered from excruciating pain and other surprising symptoms. The suffering can be so severe that some would prefer to die! We are fortunate so far here in Cambridge that we haven't been hit with high numbers but that can turn in 2 days time if people aren't following the need to wear masks whenever they are outside or inside unless they are alone or with family. There is the threat of higher numbers of Covid due to the fact that some people HAVE it but aren't showing "typical symptoms" and so they spread it to others and we could end up in as bad shape as NYC. So again thank you for your wise and mature approach so that Cambridge doesn't have to completely shut down and face the terror of increasing cases!
