These conditions exist all over Devon where street work has been started. It takes months in good weather for city crews to return and fix these things. With yesterday's snow and more predicted, I don't think these areas will be fixed any time soon.

Also be careful entering the E-W alley on the west side of Fairfield (going toward California). Last Thursday an ice slick a couple of inches thick at the alley entrance developed when the area was flooded with water. Don't know the cause.

I am sorry to hear of your wife's fall. I hope she is OK. Keep up the vigilence of our community. We need more citizens like you and less unconsciences city workers and contractors.

Thank you for your notes. My wife recently had carpal tunnel surgery when this incident happened. When she fell she naturally tried to break her fall with her hands so her wrists/hands were stressed again. She also hit the side of her face which cause some bruising (if she had not turned her head she could have easily broken her nose). On top of all this her neck and back were very sore after the fall. We went to the emergency room and will be visiting her dr. I am really angry that this happened and when I returned to the place where it happened the next day in full light it was VERY obvious that this area is a complete hazard. I really hope no one else gets hurt. Let's hope they fix it soon.

Ivan, thanks for your comment, but it was Danz whose wife was injured. I'm glad to hear from him that she's recovering. The city was out at 3 a.m. today doing street repairs at Devon & Washtenaw. I walked on Devon yesterday from Western to California and the conditions Danz described applied to many sidestreet intersections, with Western really difficult to cross. I hope the city can attend to these fixes quickly. Danz, good luck to you and your wife.

Sorry Danz for the mistake. I certainly hope your wife has a speedy recovery from her injuries. I know from personal experience how painful neck and back injuries can be. I am suffering from the same ailment right now, although I did not take a spill.
