Description
Cars traveling east on Oak don't have enough advance warning about which lanes to be in or not be in if they want to continue straight or turn onto Octavia. There is not enough signage to deter cars from turning illegally on red. "Local lanes" cause accidents because there is no indication about how to treat the stop signs in addition to the traffic lights and merging/turning cars from the center lanes. CARS HONK 24 HOURS A DAY.

Dear Jake,
Supervisor Mirkarimi has asked us to follow up with you directly
regarding your recent e-mail about your observation that cars traveling
east on Oak do not having enough advance warning about which lanes to be
in or not be in if they want to continue straight or turn onto Octavia.
Our traffic engineers have informed me that there is currently a sign
reading "Through traffic merge left"; pavement arrows in the two turn
lanes; No Turns painted in the center lane and an 8 inch solid white
line between the turn lanes and the through lanes.
However, we will log your request in for review to determine if any
additional action is warranted. One possible solution could be to add a
sign showing that the two left lanes go through, and the right lane
turns right/expanding to two turn lanes near the intersection.
The results of the Engineering Divisions investigation will be sent
directly to you. It usually takes about 30 to 90 days for the
investigation to be completed, and the response to be sent depending on
the complexity of the issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me if
you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Janet L. Martinsen

local lanes should be eliminated on southbound octavia. The extra room that is opened should go to making southbound octavia three lanes towards market with a dedicated bicycle lane.
In addition, parking should be eliminated for the right hand side of Oak at least 100 meters from the intersection at octavia.. the current 30-40 meter parking ban is not sufficient. The parking ban should cover saturday and sunday as well as there is a lot of freeway traffic those days as well, and some of the worst congestion is mid-day saturday.
