I believe that it would be very useful to put a sign in the middle of the crosswalk, saying "State Law: Yield to Pedestrians in Crosswalk". I have seen those signs elsewere, and they seem to have some effect. Because of the multiple schools near by, this intersection is very busy and can be dangerous. Many drivers do not stop for pedestrians (manyof whom are children and the elderly), some even speed up to deter pedestrians who are standing on the side of the road and trying to assess whether they can cross. Just this morning I witnessed a situation where a father and his young son were crossing the street and a driver didn't stop and almost hit them.

There is an unofficial high-traffic artery from the freeway into Science Park/Newhallville and beyond to West Rock that uses Willow, Canner and Division in ways they were never meant to be used. Add to this the infrequent traffic controls on Prospect where traffic routinely travels faster than 45 and we get a very dangerous place for pedestrians. Once again, can we move some of the NHPD officers from where they are standing all day next to some guys digging a hole and have them spend a few hours trying use this crosswalk during the morning or afternoon rush hour? This is a serious public safety issue.

It would be very important to put an in-road pedestrian sign on the crosswalk, With cars park on the side of Prospect Garden, and the other side is Yale shuttle stop, it's not enough room for two lanes traffic. drivers sometimes very rush to turn onto canner st. and they often do not see that pedestrians are crossing street until they are almost running into them.

An in-road sign was recently added at Mansfield & Division, where there have been several fatal and serious crashes just in the past year. It has helped tremendously.

Can we get one here, and at Mansfield & Hillside, as well?
