Thank you for contacting the Mayor's Office. Our office spoke with the general manager at Stop and Shop about this issue this morning, and informed them of the carriages you have brought to our attention. They are aware of the situation, and will take care of it this week. We have asked that they continue to monitor the area for other carriages left around the City. Please feel free to contact the store manager directly at their Lincoln Street location: 413-536-1247.
As Mr Knox mentioned the cart problem had gotten a lot worse. Thank you to the DPW for picking up many of the carts and tempoarily fixing the problem . I had given up on contacting Stop and Shop as they were ignoring my requests for cart retrieval. Thank you to Tessa for contacting the store manager and posting the number here.
I have again sent out a crew to pick up shopping carts throughout the city. Please understand that this is a recurring problem that we (DPW) have no control over.
The city as a whole does not look like crap due to shopping carts. Lets have a little more understanding where the DPW is concerned with regards to this since Stop & Shop is responsible to keep their carts on their property (they might invest in cart stopping equipment that prevent their carts from being rolled off the lot).
