The aggressive vagrants are everywhere and no one but residents seem to care. HPD does what it can in Midtown but their hands are tied.

I’ve lived downtown for 10 years and it’s never been this bad. Metro police don’t respond or enforce unpaid passengers, especially if they look vagrant. Homeless are allowed to sleep, urinate, deficate, Shoot up, vomit, and harass on metro platforms and inside metro cars without worry of being pestered by metro police. I’m curious how ridership is doing? I’ll never use metro again after 50+ incidents personally, but I’ll absolutely never let my wife or kids use metro.

Hines Center would easily be cleaned up if HPD enforced the anti-encampment laws already on the books. No one reports it, no one responds, cops don’t need to do anything. Squeaky wheels get the grease. This is destroying residential and business value downtown. No one will be left to pay for public services once everyone leaves downtown - no more professionals using metro, no one at sporting events, no open restaurants, no more downtown. The time to act is now.

Change has to come from the top and as long as HPD's hands are tied there is no point in responding, what can they do? Any interaction with vagrants exposes them to Covid, mentally ill vagrants who want to fight and we all know where that leads. I've seen the Metro ticket checkers assaulted on the train because they asked for a ticket from a vagrant, putting them off means sending a cadre of officers to intercept the train and wrestle them off. I've seen vagrants having sex on the train, getting up and leaving a huge fecal stain on the seat, and the stench of urine, etc. from them is often overwhelming. I won't ride the train either and it used to be one of my major forms of transportation. Of course you can't walk anywhere anymore because you have to wade through aggressive panhandlers and step over human waste and bodies sleeping on the sidewalk.

I was out tonight and everything appears exactly the same. Poop, urine, vomit, and open drug users abound. I didn’t go one block without being accosted. Houston is worse then Seattle right now. Good thing this “issue” has been closed. Makes me feel like meaningful progress has been made. Great platform for venting. Horrible platform for seeing things get resolved. It’s all fun and games until some one’s kid gets Hep C at a park or from the metro. Will be great to see these posts in court.

That's all 311 does, "issue closed." Try calling them...rude, uninformed, lazy people. The next Mayor should eliminate the department.

Just look at the notes....complaint filed 44 minutes ago, case closed 36 minutes ago. Took them 8 minutes to close the issue. Whee.

The issue just goes around and around. The same conditions exists all over downtown and midtown. Does anyone care? Not at City Hall.
