I have had conversations with both the building owner and the property manager. The building has two elevators, one goes to the 6th floor and one stops at the 5th floor. The elevator to the 6th floor is down and will be for some time. The building management was unaware that a handicapped gentleman was living on the 6th floor because the apartment was being sublet to him by the actual tenant. I provided them with two options: remove the tenant from the building or relocate him to a different floor.

The building owner is making arrangements to get the handicapped gentleman into an apartment on the 5th floor. There will be no tenants requiring an elevator living on the 6th floor. The building owner is going to keep me up to date with the status of the non-functioning elevator. Elevators are not a required component for egress, only accessibility.
