The traffic device placed on South 27th Street was a speed classifier. It was set in response to a speeding complaint. The complaint specified the location is west of Benson Road South. SUBJECT: Traffic Counter in Your Neighborhood
Dear Mr. Summers:
The traffic data collection that the City of Renton ordered was supposed to have been placed west of Benson Road South (Benson RD S) not west of Benson Drive South (Benson DR S). The data that we received showed an estimated Average Daily Traffic of 3100 vehicles per day, which is highly unlikely for a dead end street. Do you have a photograph or recall if there were any markings indicating the owner or manufacturer of the counter? The Transportation Operations Section of the City of Renton has not authorized any counts in your neighborhood. Based on the evidence that we have, the counter that you saw was placed by a third party, without our consent and is not sharing data with us. The counter that you saw west of Benson Drive South was done by a third party that we did not authorize. The City of Renton is not considering connecting South 27th Street to Benson Drive South, east of Smithers Avenue South.
