Description

Are you aware of the unsafe condition that exists on Finch Road between Wyatt and Sportsman Club Roads?

Finch Road is a residential street yet, the traffic is ceaseless with cars and large truck/trailer rigs barreling down the street in excess of the posted 30 mph speed limit all day long. I worry that a large dump truck/trailer full of rocks traveling down the hill at 40 mph will not be able to brake safely to avoid a pedestrian, car, bike or car that pulls out from the blind driveways that exist on this street.

Moreover the 30 mph speed limit is much to great for traffic turning from Finch onto Sportsman Club Road. This is a very dangerous intersection where I observe cars/trucks accelerating into that turn rather than slowing down where there is a concentration of pedestrians and cyclists using the trail that begins there. Also, I frequently see cars, stopped at Sportsman Club, turn directly into oncoming southbound traffic when turning onto Finch Road. Its only a matter of time before another serious accident occurs at this intersections.

One person has already been killed and one paralyzed near that intersection. Why has nothing been done to address the volume of traffic and the high rate of speed at which cars travel along this street? Why are large truck and trailer rigs heavy with rock and dirt allowed to travel at all through this neighborhood?

I would like to see: 1) the speed limit reduced to 25 mph (a speed more appropriate and respectful for a residential neighborhood with a large amount of foot traffic and cyclists); 2) a four way stop at the intersection of Finch/Sportsman/Carmella; 3) speed bumps along Finch Road, particularly on the downhill/southbound lane where there is no shoulder and several blind driveways.
