Description
Along with non-residential parkers, Lyon St. is plagued by people who speed from Olive to Jefferson at much more than 25 mph. In light of the direct proximity of sidewalks to street, and the number of people who walk along this block, these speeding cars pose a real, consistent threat. Would it be possible to have one or more speed bumps added to this street? Is this something that other neighbors find desirable?

Anyone interested in this continuing problem should check out Issue ID 10078 "Speeding on St John Street." It deals with the identical situation on the opposite side of Grand Avenue. This issue was opened in 2009, generated comments until December, 2013 when it was closed with no action taken.
Parking on both sides of St. John Street does not prevent cars from speeding through as a shortcut and to beat the light. Speed bumps seem to have calmed traffic on Edwards, between Whitney and Orange. In that thread, there are suggestions that the Alderperson become involved. Good idea.

There you will find a “Complete Streets Manual” and “Project Request Form”. On October 23, 2008, The New Haven Board of Aldermen unanimously passed an order creating a nine member Complete Streets Steering Committee to guide the development of the following elements for the purpose of addressing the status of city streets: policy document, design manual, public process, educational campaign and traffic enforcement.
A focal point is to include feedback and ideas for street improvements from members of the community. You will also find previously submitted project requests from other community members. Please submit a “Project Request Form” for this issue through the link above. As a resident, you are not required to design anything. Instead, use the "Complete Streets Manual" as a showcase of the different types of traffic calming measures that may be used.
