I originally posted this. I went there yesterday and took some photos. It is in the same dangerous condition so my opinion is the same as before. I go out of my way to avoid this 101 entrance even though very convinent for my work commute. If you look closely in my posted picture, you'll see that there is only about 35' (approx 2.5 carlengths) of merge area at best. Compare this to looking at maps.google.com aerial/sat potos of this area before construction: you can see that there is healthy 500' of merge area, where the whole time you can negotiate the merge safely with 101 traffic. But now, you have no reasonable time to look in your rear view mirror and merge safely. There is no yield sign for you or the 101 cars, just a yellow merge sign you see on any highway merge. I even witnessed cars putting on their brakes to make the merge (see lower picture)...I'm sure they were stressed out at that moment! I know was when I used to do it. I still think this is an accident wating to happen and it should be fixed: either close the ramp down, make it safe with plenty of merge length, or require by law the 101 traffic in the area to have a speed limit of (say) 40mph. I think there are other ramps nearby (such as River road, Hopper) in a similar state.
