If the stump is on your property, why should the town grind it out? Just curious...

The tree is on the edge of our property against the street (I guess within the 6' or whatever you technically don't own) We had no say in having the tree cut down, it was not dead, it was beautiful and we loved the shade etc, the tree lined street was a selling factor in our home and a few months later it was gone! The city put a little white note on the tree and soon after it was cut down. We were not notified in our mail or in person. If the city made the decision and left an eyesore, they should fix it!

forgive me for continuously saying City vs. Town, I grew up in a city and its habit!

In Hamden, the Town controls the trees near the street.

Private treefolks will not work on them, even to prevent disease (local ordinance?) per my experiences.

The Town removes sick trees which it owns, not notifying the nearby homeowner, is supposed to come back later,(did not in this case) and grind the stump and roots near the tree location.

Stump is still there, looks better when covered with snow, but none-the-less still there. No one from the town has contacted me regarding this either.

Still there....its been 3 years now. I did call the Town and spoke to the Tree Supervisor again and he said he is putting the job in the first set of jobs for the season, don't know when they are going to start working though....really want to put in a fence so my 1yo twins can run around and the teens can stop cutting across my yard and littering along the way!

Coming up on 4 years in about 2 months. At least the stump is covered by snow so I don't have to look at its ugliness.

I can not count the number of times I have called the town over this and been told its at the top of the list.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for who to contact come spring?

They came and ground the stump last week!! I placed yet another call to the town and again explained the stump has been there since 2007 (BTW thank you to my neighbors for the recent addition of weed baggies to the garbage I had to clean up each week around the stump). They used the dirt pile we purchased in 2007 for this purpose and even put down some grass seed! We are just waiting for our tax return to finally start fencing in our yard for our kids! Can you tell how happy we are this is finally done?
