I understand this is not a lighting issue, but did not see a category for road issue.

Fort ave is much wider. My question is who is riding bikes to and from Highland ave. Highland ave is a state highway and that is the last place bikes should be riding. By the way the last bike sharing company we had left because the bikes were not being used. Salem does not need bike lanes.

If people would drive the speed limit, the width of the street and the poles wouldn't be an issue. People all over this area are so used to driving 40+ on Willson St, it will take some time to change their behavior. Much better to have a fender bender (which hasn't happened btw) than to have a child run-over trying to get to school.

The problem is that people don’t drive the speed limit. There will always be those who go too fast. There are also people who don’t stay in their lane. This will always be an issue as well. This was poorly planned and not even needed. The f they wanted a bike lane, put it on one side since there’s so few bikes. Previously they mentioned this project was a “if we build it, they will come”. If that’s truly the case, then look to expand it. Right now, these lanes take up nearly as much space as the car lanes themselves.

With all the complaints about this, it wouldn’t surprise me if the city gets sued after there’s a severe accident. There’s been too many near misses since this went up. This wasn’t a problem before because you could easily move to the side.

Worst case, if the city doesn’t want to remove the bike lanes, then take away the poles so cars have more space to avoid potential head on collisions with risking damage to their cars from these dumb poles.

I love how everyone is now a traffic expert all of a sudden. Maybe ask some of the hundreds of cyclists that appreciate having a physical barrier between them and a speeding car, truck or SUV what their opinion is of the new project. Bike lanes are almost useless without the posts. In the days between when the lanes were painted and when the posts went up, I witnessed a cyclist get clipped which led to a physical assault and the driver sped off. Never would have happened if posts were up. Keep them up!

And give me a break with the "i cAn'T GeT ovEr fOR eMeRgeCy VehIcLeS!". That's such a desperate reach. Slow down and pull over between the poles. If you can't make that maneuver you're either going too fast or shouldn't be driving. It's not like they come up on you at 50 mph.
