Description
This seems to be the best place to report problems or questions and others can chime in.
I don't often drive to downtown Ansonia but I had to this morning for an appointment. I was amazed to see this burned out commercial building STILL standing and not repaired. Wasn't it pretty much destroyed YEARS ago?
I found this photo online (it's a little dated) and the address so I am sorry if I have the number wrong but I'm sure it's well known and the building pretty much looks the same except the plywood on the windows has been painted red.. as if this was to improve it.
It also had a sign in front of it last fall that I see is still there "NEW STORES COMING". Really!? What new stores? What leases are signed? When is construction beginning?
Is the City of Ansonia does not consider this blight that needs immediate attention (ie: tear down the building or complete the renovations the signage promises) than I don't know what is.
This is how we want people welcomes to downtown? Not that the vacant Healey Ford building doesn't need attention pronto also, but it's not this bad.

It is what is keepin my rent and intitlmints cheep in this town.
Do not teer it down. This kind of Blight in Ansonias downtown center allows us to hang out in the many areas to sleep, put our stuff, deal and park our carriges. Many of us get tired hanging out around best gatherin point in town the East and North main Street factory prpperty so this area comes in handy so we dont step on each others territory. Rember the longer it stays like this the more of my family and friends will come because things are cheep in this town with good priced rents the AHA and HUD offers us. The town is already bumpin us out of Riverside and we gots no where to go but into your neghborhood.
Well….time to leave the warmth of this library to protect what your tryin to improve

This building does seem to fit the definition of a blighted building.

Question is, why has the blight officer not taken action? New administration... time to take action.

Thanks William,
Wow, I have to agree. This structure is EXACTLY the reason the anti-blight ordinances were put in place. One would think someone at the City would have spotted a building a mile from City Hall and taken action long ago.
The new administration can show it won't tolerate blight in Ansonia by taking action immediately.

Ansonia-In-Shambles,
I could not agree more. Not a SINGLE person from the City has a comment on this? The building has not changed one bit since this post and it's been WEEKS.
I see "Ignore See Click Fix and it will go away" seems to be how the new Administration is handling comments here.

Well, while no one of authority seems to want to respond to this, I have noticed several large dumpsters were placed on the left side of this building in recent weeks and now only one remains. It seems the interior was being gutted. If this is because the owner is actually finally going to fix this eyesore or the city did something to make them will remain a mystery.
Gotta love how planning and zoning called a new Cumberland Farms as you enter Ansonia on Pershing a nice "gateway" to the city but this run down dump which also is one of the first things people see on Main Street sits and rots.

Insight to many topics can be found at the city website under meeting minutes. I invite all to check it out sometime so that you may be familiar with what's there. It's a good resource for current topics.
To my knowledge, no one from the city has "signed up" to officially monitor this public site. Issues/concerns/questions should go directly to the corresponding department or commission or your friendly neighborhood alderman. They should be able to assist in answering any questions concerning the city.
