The fire hydrant was removed by National Grid Gas doing work last week. Is the hydrant still operable in case of anemergency?

In regards to the recent situation of the hydrant near 33 Cedar St. This hydrant was indeed hit during a National Grid excavation last week. The Malden Water Division has retrieved the hydrant and is currently working to have this issue resolved as quickly as possible. Please note that although this hydrant is part of the overall fire -protection system design others are available in time of need. Rest assured we are working with all parties concerned to resolve this repair/replacement of this valve as soon as possible, and there is still adequate fire protection coverage for the area just past the Maple Street intersection. Meanwhile our efforts will continue to restore that hydrant and it's ability to be set back to operational standards.
Thank you for your inquiries
Respectfully
John DeSantis
