Litter in this area is out of control
Litter is an ongoing nuisance that government can't effectively address. Yes, they should take care of dumping and heavily trafficked areas, but ongoing litter removal is best done by us, the citizenry.
I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond and bought a "grabber" which allows me to easily pick up trash. It costs $15. I use grocery bags so as not incur any further expense.
I patrol my and adjacent blocks several times a week and I realize there are two side benefits:
1. When people see trash, they add more. When people see a clean street, they are hesitant to litter. By simply being seen picking up litter you are communicating civic duty to those who witness you - and who may be encouraged to join you - while also preventing future litter.
2. We are another set of eyes. LItter patrol is also crime prevention.
The heights in general needs more trash cans. I regularly see people dropping trash and emptying their cars of trash onto the streets and sidewalks. If cans aren't accessable and regularly collected then lazy people just drop their junk.
Many people do their part to pick up litter regularly but who really has time every day to pick up so much trash?
I cleaned my side of my block one day last month so it didn't even have cigarette butts and the next day it looked exactly the same as before I had cleaned it. The city needs to step up.
