Correct me if I am wrong, but if you are talking about the new bridge with the trail that runs under the tracks, it appears it has been completed. Please advise if that is not correct. The persons that would know more about it would be Shawnee County Parks, which manages the trail, or BNSF. But from Kansas Avenue, the trail appears to be open.

The bridge was complete in October. The trail under it has not been repaired. BNSF placed NO TREASPASSING signs across the trail.

Shawnee County Parks and Rec said BNSF told them their contractor will have that trail section completed and open by the end of January. I have moved the "completion date" forward to Feb. 1. This area is still blocked off due to a conflict with SN CO and BNSF. This is a county trail and the city has not jurisdiction to speed up the process. We will keep ticket open until progress has been made.

Hello, I am a former BNSF employee (Retired). I went out to this portion of the trail to see what the issue is. The trail itself does not appear to be physically blocked, however there is a sign that reads "DANGER No Trespassing Keep off Bridge BNSF Railway Co.". I believe the intent is to keep people off the Railroad Tracks and the Bridge. I do not believe the intent was to restricted the flow of traffic of people walking or biking the trail under the bridge. For safety sake I would not pass or cross under the bridge when a train is crossing because of possible falling objects. I have sent a message to BNSF Community Relations concerning the issue and will let know how they respond. To me this isn't really any different than the UP road crossing by the Kansas River. Pedestrians cross the tracks from the parking area to get the ramp and river all the time with no restrictions..

I think that the county and BNSF now have an agreement to get the Landon trail restored to its previous paved condition sometime in 2021. Bob you are right. This new bridge needs some safety nets to protect citizens passing along the trail and under the bridge from falling objects. And the railroad bridge over South Topeka Blvd. near the Frito Lay plant and SE 45th should also have safety nets to protect cars passing under the bridge.
