I'm writing this complaint out because for about a year now there has been a generator that runs from early morning to late late at night. This sound is constant, my only piece and quiet are when the thing turns off sporadically. I haven't seen the generator but I know that it's on this street.

In order to file a noise inspection request with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), an address where the generator is located is required. You can provide that address here or file a complaint by calling 311. If you do not know the address or location of the generator, you may call 311 to schedule a DEP noise inspection using your home address. Once you file a request with 311, a DEP representative will contact you to schedule the noise reading in your home at a time and date that works for you.

A DEP inspector was on site 12/17/20, 11 AM, but did not hear the generator noise. DEP has scheduled a 2nd noise inspection for Monday 12/21/20. Please specify the exact location where the inspector will be able to hear the noise. I live on Church ave, directly across the train station and east 18th street. From the back of my building, I can hear the generator sound, and it's pretty noisy. But in front of the building that I live you can barely hear the generator sound. You can hear this generator even when you're on the train tracks. I've also spoken to a neighbor in my building about the sound and she was the one to tell me that she thinks its coming from behind 27 E 18th Street.

A DEP inspector would like to schedule a home visit with the complainant to take a noise reading from inside the residence. The reading can not be conducted from the street but must take place inside the affected residentce. Please contact DEP inspector Joseph Orten or Senior Inspector James Malloy at 718-923-2716 to schedule a noise inspection.
