The Town recognizes that as a resident near the Recker Road Improvements Project, it is important for you to be informed about the status of this Project and its anticipated completion. Several major components of the Project have been completed to date, including substantial private irrigation work, relocation of multiple SRP power poles, and the widening of Recker Road itself. While the Project was originally scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020, various issues, including scheduling of work, have required modification of the original plan and resulted in the Project being temporarily delayed. At this time, the area of the Project, including any areas of incomplete work, has been secured, and traffic control remains in place as necessary to protect the traveling public. We currently anticipate that work on the Project will resume in early 2021, likely in February.

Is there any update? It’s been over a month. The work delays are taking so long, meanwhile more work was scheduled at recker and Warner and that got done before anything else was done in this area. It’s a nightmare to get through the area at busy times of the day.

According to the new sign, the work is not not restarting until April and will not complete until December. So, a street widening project was worked on for 4 months, took 5 months off and now will take 9 more months to complete??

According to my Gregorian calendar February is almost over. I think the mask mandates will expire before that road is fixed.

Blake, I hope you are incorrect on the new timeline for completion. That would be absurd. But at this point nothing surprises me. I have to go a couple miles out of my way twice a day to avoid this traffic congestion. Any one up for getting a petition started. Or how about we make all those barriers disappear!

I am definitely open to starting a petition. I believe the Town of Gilbert has failed this project, unless the people that use this area speak up there is not reason for the city to do anything. They need to stop any new projects and reallocate the resources to finishing Recker Road. That is the right thing to do.

I’m up for it. This delay is completely unacceptable and unnecessary.

Barb: Bingo! Why is it always someone else’s fault when a project is messed up? Mesa deflects responsibility too. Even though the petition won’t matter because the Town of Gilbert doesn’t care I’ll sign it. Put it out on the Neighborhood App because this forum can be wiped clean.

We recognize that the current situation is frustrating for anyone that lives in the areas affected by the Recker Rd. construction. We're frustrated too and are working to provide some answers related to the current status of the construction and an estimated completion date. While we're limited in the information that we can currently provide, we will update this request with any information that we're able to provide as soon as we're able to provide it. Please know that we wouldn't stop construction if it wasn't important and the right thing to do to ensure that the new road is completed correctly and in a way that will last well into the future.

Absent any solid response from the Town of Gilbert, your statement that your office can only provide [limited] information when you can provide it is disingenuous. The impacts to the residents in this area grow daily given the escalating number of new homes and businesses attaining occupancy certificates. When can we schedule a town hall to discuss this situation?

I'm not sure why you would say that I'm being disingenuous. I cannot provide any additional information right now due to the status of the current situation. As soon as I can, I will update this request with whatever information I can give.

You are welcome to attend any of the council meetings and submit a request to speak but the council is already aware of the situation and, per Arizona Open Meeting Laws, will not be able to respond directly to your comments.

Everyone is just really frustrated right now, we just want to see the road done as soon as possible, these residents drive on this faulty construction every day, so to those of you that plan this stuff, please get a crew out there working on it, And I bet the concerns of the people will go away from 311

If the city has issue with someone using the term disingenuous then how about failure to be forthright. The copy and paste answer is only fueling an already frustrated community that is staring at road work that is only one month from being under construction for an entire year.

More and more should keep on sharing their dissatisfaction until we see actual road crews out there, USA! USA! USA!

Any updatea now that march is almost over

It is mid April now and nothing has been worked on or changed. What is the plan here? Why is the city starting road construction in other places and leaving this unfinished?

This completely ridiculous. Any comments now just get marked as “duplicates” and ignored. Those of us who live in the area and have to drive through this construction everyday want actual answers on a timeline. “It’s really important to us too and if we stopped work it’s for a good reason” isn’t good enough after several months of waiting. Now the town doesn’t even answer at all.

There is another thread floating around about this. The comment was made on the other thread of maybe somebody should reach out to the various television stations with investigative reporters. Just saying...Don

Happy May 2021 - and the roadwork at Ray and Recker is still incomplete. I post again that the Town of Gilbert as abandoned this project and left it unsafe and in bad operation. They continue to post that they are working on finding someone to work on this road while they start new projects.

Yeah. Meanwhile, they’ve just stopped responding to comments on this thread. Ridiculous. The sign says September 2021 as a projected finish date. I can’t believe it will have taken them almost a year to expand the road by one lane for less than half a mile. What a joke

The Town of Gilbert would like to thank the residents near the Recker Road Improvements Project for their patience as the Town worked through its negotiations for resumption of work. Construction has resumed as of May 3rd, 2021 and project completion is expected in late September 2021. For additional information on the project and its status, please visit https://reckerroad.com.

The way this project was run is absolutely unacceptable. The person in charge of this project is fortunate to have a Govt job where one doesn’t have to produce! In the private sector he/she would have been fired.

I work from home and can see the Recker Rd construction area. If the contractors are saying they are working as of May 3 then someone needs to be on site because no work has been completed at all this week.

You are correct Mr. Binder, this type of work ethic would never be accepted in the private sector.
Also - Christie you too are also correct, no matter there note, there has been no progress on this road all week. Do they honestly believe that we wouldn't notice, we live in this mess, obviously nobody at the Town of Gilbert lives in this disastrous, dangerous area.

As of today there is certainly no sign of any resumption of construction work

This is Mayor Brigette Peterson and Copper Ranch Resident should know that William Binder and I had a phone conversation this morning!

Talis Construction is the new contractor. They resumed construction on Monday May 3, 2021 completion is scheduled for the end of September 2021. Talis’s survey crews were out on site Monday and Tuesday preparing the site and on Wednesday full construction activities began. The Town of Gilbert Senior Project Manager was out on site today witnessing the first concrete pour.

Thank you William J. Binder for reaching out to the mayor’s office and procuring a response. Copper Ranch Resident - looks like you have a bet to pay off LOL! And thank you Mayor Peterson for your response; time will tell if the current completion schedule actually comes to fruition, but I hope it will. In the meantime, let’s hope that traffic control issues are also acknowledged and managed by the Town.

My sincere apologies to the Mayor of Gilbert,I passed the construction area and there was actual work being done, it is all every one wanted, I will pay off that bet if I have to

Meanwhile a half of a mile north on Recker a whole new housing development has gone up ant the road widenig project pn one side is just about complete all in a month or two.
And our project southe of Warner wpnt be complete until after a year from when it was started. Nobody deserves kudos for anything here. If anything there should be some people fired for their lack of accountability on this project.
The only salvation we have for a couple months is that school is on summer vacation.
If this project manager had any accountability they would complete this in the next couple of months!

While I appreciate the mayor finally chiming in on an project that was supposed to be completed in December, I would hardly call her awesome for posting a message. I believe the Town of Gilbert abandoned this project and moved on to other projects and without the insistence of some members of the community this would have been left abandoned, dangerous and incomplete.

Unfortunately, I never heard back. While it was nice of the mayor to respond (which is part of her job) she didn't do anything to assist in this abandoned, unaccountable Gilbery traffic project. It was the residents who refused to let up on this.

Thank you Mayor Peterson for the update. I would like to offer 1 additional input. The east side sidewalk is a significant safety hazard - cracks, bumps, missing sections. We have been told previously that fixing this sidewalk is not in the scope of this project. Given that several of the cracks were caused by the previous contractor and at least 2 of the sidewalk sections were removed and replaced with uneven asphalt, I would like to ask the town to reconsider adding this to the scope of the project.

You are all very correct. This situation should never have happened... it's not something we've seen before in Gilbert. The contractor was not performing to the level that we expect or that we will pay for. Being good stewards of our finances is something we work very hard to do on every project.

I started as Mayor mid-January and didn't learn about this until March. We put it on the next meeting night, our first meeting in April to discuss and the following meeting, our 2nd meeting in April to vote on. Here we are today.
