This was posted well over a month ago. I see that is was referred to a few different people. Will there be an actual response at some point? I am not familiar with this site so I am not sure how long it typically takes to get a response. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

No one has reached out via email so I will explain the reasoning for this request here. Palisado Avenue, similar to a highway, is a very wide, straight, and flat road. Characteristics such as these allow drivers to comfortably travel at high speeds. The issue is that people can drive 70 mph down this road and there is NOTHING to slow them down (e.g. bumps, turns, hills, etc.). Sometimes it appears that virtually every single car that comes down this road is exceeding the 45 mph speed limit. This is not just during rush hour but at all hours of the day and night. Every single day I see cars traveling at highway speeds (65-70 mph). I fully understand that law enforcement cannot monitor this road 24/7 and I would not expect them to. Any time I see a Windsor officer patrolling this road I am very appreciative. My point is, although this is a main road, it is still a residential area. Many families have small children around here, including myself. I can not even let my children or pets in the front yard because I know if they get anywhere near the road the speeding cars will not be able to stop in time. As I stated in the original post, I believe radar speed signs would be effective in helping reduce the speeding issue in this area. This is based on the effectiveness of the temporary radar trailer that was set up by police several months ago. The options I have seen include radar speed signs mounted to existing signs, telephone poles, or stand alone models that appear to be solar powered. Again, I am available via email to discuss. Sorry for the delayed response. I appreciate your patience. Palisado is a state road. There are limitations as to what the local agencies (PD, Engineering) can attached to poles on state roads. A variance is needed from the state to allow this and they are reluctant to allow this. With that, our options are limited. The portable radar trailer seems to be a good option for Palisado, however we are limited as to when we can put that out there. It's not practical to deploy it in the winter months. The plows would potentially destroy it. I will instruct the patrol lieutenant to have officers spend some time doing selective enforcement on Palisado once the roads become a little less hazardous (snow).

Andrew, thank you for the response. Is there a way to apply for a variance and if so where can I find the application? Also, do you know of anyone from the state that I can talk to about this? I would really like to try to get this done if at all possible. Thanks for your help.

We are talking internally about what is and isn't possible for Palisado Ave. I will update as we get information.

I really appreciate that. Not to keep opening this back up, but I think it’s worth noting that adjacent street and also state owned road Poquonock Ave. (Route 75) has two of these signs installed on both sides of the road (one heading north and one heading south). I am almost positive that each of the radar signs are fastened to existing signs or telephone poles. This makes me think that this is also possible for Palisado Ave. Thanks again for your help.
