I've referred this to our Public Works Department. When the staff has had a chance to respond I’ll post an update. Thanks for reporting.

Per Public Works: There was no sidewalk completely closed. The contractor stated he left one person at the most congested corner to help with access during lunch. Since the sidewalk was not closed on both sides, we asked the contractor to complete his work by end of day and also to adjust his sidewalk closure signs at the end of each block before continuing work. He will use cold patch to fill the sidewalk tonight before leaving.

Just curious, did a CoR rep confirm this by going to the site, or did you take the contractor's word for it? With construction on-going on two corners of this intersection, it's a nightmare for pedestrians and I've seen many people with the "deer in headlights" look, wondering if they are going to make it across these streets safely. As far as the construction workers are concerned, most of them are polite, but there are a few who, ironically, will walk out in front of traffic between Harris Teeter and McDonalds without even looking for traffic. It's as if they are daring you to hit them.

There's no excuse for the crude remark from the construction worker.

I am reopening this issue. The sidewalk was totally closed on the USPS side of Oberlin Road where the new apartments are being built. I was trying to walk down the sidewalk on the McDonalds side where there has been a usable sidewalk behind the orange and white barricades. I was walking back to NC State where I Got stopped by a construction worker who said the were paving sidewalk at the McDonalds where the barrier begins. That is when and where I inquired about how do I get there and he laughed and said "get a f---ing car."

Reopening. City of Raleigh, both sidewalks along Oberlin were closed all the way from Clark to Cameron St. BOTH SIDES.

We have asked Public Works to follow-up with the contractor regarding the closure and the employee's response.

FYI City of Raleigh, the new concrete that was poured in front of the Crescent Cameron Village Apartments along Oberlin Rd. before the tore up the old sidewalk (oh yeah, this is why the sidewalk was closed- they dug it up and poured a new one- but I'm sure you didn't get that when the contractor told you the sidewalk was never closed.) I degress, the new sidewalk is cracking and crumbling because they didn't put any spacers in the concrete to allow it to contract and expand. Just thought if share so the City won't have to spend tens of thousands to replace it in months.

BigWilly, thanks for looking out for our tax dollars. Since this project began, there have been numerous posts about the impact it has had on this intersection, including one person in a wheelchair who got stuck because of poor planning/implementation by the contractor.

We will pass this information along to Public Works.

Not sure what CoR is talking about when referring to "the contractor" and being able to complete work by the end of day. This is two ongoing construction projects of buildings accross the street from each other. I can confirm that both sides have been completely closed.

This is why citizens have no respect for government employees. This is a perfect example of incompetence. This is not rocket science City of Raleigh. You have one side of the street entirely closed off and the other side magically got a new sidewalk without any kind of closure? So who is getting a kickback from the inspector?

Sorry this one has dropped through the cracks (in the sidewalk!?). A number of issues were lost in the system for a while and we are trying to catch up. This construction project has been a challenge for everyone, but the projects will be an asset to the area. Luckily for all both projects are winding down and the sidewalks should be open soon. Once again, our apologies for not responding sooner.
