this is entirely ridiculous. how can a private business take over an entire sidewalk like this? was there a permit for this? if not, i hope keys to the city is fined for this behavior. completely unacceptable to block a sidewalk, especially in a major pedestrian area.

Downtown is lucky to have a dedicated person like you!!
The District has reached out to Keys to the City and spoken to the manager. This was a one time event and they are now aware of the New Haven handicap accessibility standards and have said they will abide by these standards moving forward. Please let us know if this happens again and I'll speak with the owner of Keys to the City.

They would never be granted a permit for this type of obstruction. LCI called the Building Department and the do not have a permit according to staff.
We will be looking into this matter.
Perhaps the Police and speak to the owners tonight if they do it again.
Keep an Eye on them for us! Call 946-6316 for the police non-emergency issues hotline.
Thanks
