At approx. 6:30 AM this morning I was traveling south on Whitney ave. going approx. 25 mph when amidst the white road and falling snow I came upon a 2-3 foot high pile of snow left by a plow leaving sherman ave. I did not have time to react and hit the snow pile at approx 20 to 25 miles per hour. I suffered major damage to the front of my car and every warning light is now on. I cannot understand how Hamden can have a policy that prohibits private plows from this practice but it is acceptable for town vehicles to do this. I will now be having major out of pocket expenses to repair my vehicle. I would like a response as to what the Public works department of Hamden will do to rectify my cost and inconvenience before I go to the step of hiring an attorney to address this issue. I am aware that cameras monitor the intersection of Sherman and Whitney if you review footage at 12/17/20 between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM you will see exactly the situation. I believe public works and snow removal are a part of public safety and this situation showed no regard for safety. Had i been traveling a little faster I believe my air bags would have deployed potentially injuring me and resulting in higher damage. I advise that equipment operators be trained on the proper use of their equipment. Please let me know your standing on this issue.
My car has been totaled, out of pocket expense after insurance is 2000 dollars and I have not been contacted by the assigned person from public works.I will discuss next steps with my attorney after I finish getting a new car and dealing with my insurance company. NO RESPONSE, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED. I expect all video from street cameras to be saved for my review.
