Description

For the safety of our children, I respectively request that the city please consider adding 2-3 speed bumps on 45th st, between Shafter and Lawton St.

There are currently speed bumps between Shafter and Telegraph, and between Lawton and Broadway on 45th st, but none between Shafter and Lawton on the southside of Emerson elementary school.

The result of missing speed bumps on this stretch of 45th st., is dozens of cars a day speeding recklessly through the traffic light at 45th and Shafter and sometimes even through the stop sign (without stopping) at Lawton and 45th st.

Given there are many young kids who live on 45th st on this block (nearly every house), including many more hundreds of students attending Emerson, after-school programs at Studio One, and high school-aged students walking to Oakland Tech and Oakland International, as well as countless others who walk on the Slow Street at Shafter, starting at 45th st, it is extremely dangerous and disturbing to see dozens of cars daily speeding through this stretch of road.

While speed bumps may not completely solve the problem, it will likely go a long way in discouraging cars to use 45th as an alternative to 51st to speed between Telegraph and Broadway.

I'd hate to wait until someone (likely a kid) is hit or worse killed before improvement is made.

For the safety of our children, please consider adding a couple (2-3) speed bumps on 45th st, between Shafter and Lawton St.
