Description

There are, at a minimum, two dangerous pedestrian points at the intersection of Florida Ave. NE and NY Ave. NE (U.S. 50). The first are the NW bound vehicles turning from O St NE onto Florida Ave NE attempting to cross NY Ave. NE. The light on NY Ave. NE does not remain green long enough to allow more than about one car to safely clear the intersection. As a result, pedestrians have the walk signal to cross Florida Ave NE, but vehicles are racing through the intersection in attempt to cross NY Ave NE. The second problem is the vehicles that are now allowed to turn left from Florida Ave. NE onto NY Ave. NE. Prior to the traffic reconfiguration vehicles were not allowed to do so and now they are. However, few of those vehicles actually yield to the pedestrians crossing NY Ave. NE. It would be much safer to route those vehicles around the traffic circle and have them make a right hand turn onto NY Ave. NE from 1st Street NE.
