Ok maybe a ticket but searched really why?

I'm sure there are more pressing issues but it is a quality of life issue. I don't care if it's Hip Hop, The Carpenters, Mozart or some tuff guy on a Harley. I am also sick of it. Enough already. Give them a ticket maybe will find drugs maybe not but there has to be a start.

Well they don't give out tickets for talking on your cell phone and thats 2pts on ur license. Why would they give out tickets for blaring music?

Oh stop it! Just as fast as they go by with their loud music, they are gone. I have had many people blasting their oldies music but I guess that would be ok because they are older right? Yes, a ticket I can understand but searching their cars? Give me a break! I do worry about them not hearing a horn or siren coming so thats why I understand the ticket thing but you were once a kid too & nine times out of ten, you were one of them blasting your music too when you were their age! By the way, I am older and I have grown kids and I have told them too not to blast the music so they can hear oncoming horns or sirens so this isn't a kid commenting but searching their car? Come on.... don't be nasty!

This is kingston don't expect anything to be done about it, the quality of life here is gone.

This is a serious problem .Now that the nice weather is coming as we sit in traffic the constant banging of the speakers,then the so called songs with the disgusting fowl language .
I dont think searching a car but a ticket for out of control NOISE IS JUSTIFIED....THE real issue is the safety..there is no way they can hear any thing in traffic.....
It is the speakers that they use and they are loud and out of control.
The motorcycles are just as bad because they sit in traffic and rem it up an d up ...they are stupid and bringing attention to themselves jut so they can annoy people then blast you back and ah yeah man i gotta mya rights....guess what so do we and there is noise control laws in effect ....

I think a fine of at least $250 would be a fair punishment--on a par with the fine for littering--another quality of life issue that Kingston suffers from. And here's another idea: As for those offenders who could not or would not pay the fine, please do not further burden the taxpayers by putting the deadbeats in jail. Instead, seize and sell the their car to pay the fine.

It is a quality of life issue and I agree with common sense's idea. Make the fine big enough so that it matters to people. It wouldn't take long for this city to become a quieter, more pleasant place. As for littering, I don't even think that is on the books in Kingston. You should check out the littering in the parks. It's really bad.

This boils down to an issue of enforcement, and I don't think the priority is high enough for KPD to police it. I've seen them cruise right by and ignore these situations. Fact is, there is jargon in the existing code that deals with music noise, but it's not being enforced.

Hey let's start giving tickets for honking your horn and jaywalking while we're at it...oh wait! The cops are busy dealing with REAL problems like gangs and drug activity!

Let the cops do their jobs in trying to clean up our streets and make our city a safe place to raise our kids who will, yes, listen to loud music in their cars, but at least they'll be safe to walk down the street to the corner store without being propositioned.

SeeClickFix has turned into a real witch hunt board recently, ehh? Why don't we focus on some real hardball issues like our local career politicians spending us into a meat grinder? Comment's like "seize and sell the their car to pay the fine", "$250 would be a fair punishment" and "make the fine big enough so that it matters to people" are counterproductive. It may seem well intentioned, but it won't solve the so-called "problem". This is just something you'll have to deal with living in a city. Like I always say, thank god you don't live in NYC!

Robert, you make a good point. In the city, we live close upon each other, and "stuff" happens. And we can all work on doing better.

Sorry Robert, but I don't think it's a witch hunt when I say make the fine big enough so it matters to people. I thought this was a forum to give our opinions. That's what I think has to happen before there are any changes in Kingston, and I've lived here going on 30 years. I believe in consequences or there is nothing motivating people to change. Yes, we have to deal with many things because of the close proximity of humanity, and living here is our choice, but Kingston has a lot of quality of life issues. I'm a long time renter who cares about where I live and pay for my own improvements. For you home owners, go ahead and let your property values drop. Good people will leave, and you will be stuck here. Things are not going to get better with the way the economy is headed.

@ anonymous I understand where you're coming from but I highly doubt the court system and/or government can solve issues. They tend only to make things worse for the people of Kingston in my eyes. Something as small as loud music is just so petty. I truly believe you're right about Kingston having many quality of life issues, but I only see the people of this city finding a proper solution to most of them. I'm also renter and have decided on leaving Kingston behind me. This city is in decline and quite honestly rarely sees any growth.

Although I really don't think that the loud music from cars is petty, I understand where you're comng from. I don't mind hearing it when I'm on the street or even in my car, but please, I don't want to hear it in my house. I was feeling sorry for myself about it several years ago and berating myself about how close I lived to the street. Then I noticed that it was no closer than most of the other homes in Kingston.
I agree that the city is in decline. When I moved here 30 years ago, I loved how convenient everything was and how friendly it was. I also love the history. That's still true, but the litter, and how dirty and unkempt everything is, not to mention the amount of drug dealing that goes on, has gotten to me. And all the discussion about trash pick up! There are clean cities in the south where the refuse haulers pick it up in the back of the house. The cans never sit on the curb.

This city gov. is in denial on how bad the city looks the roads the litter the noise, their concern seem to be cats yard sales and band stands!!

Look how in decline New York City was before Mayor Giuliani took THE BROKEN WINDOWS approach! Would you have taken your kids to Times Square of 42nd St in the 70's or 80's?! As a child in the 70's my father drove me down to the Bowery to see the walking dead derelicts begging for change at the car window. Never forgot those haunting images. Remember the squeegee guys? Some people hated Giuliani for his approach but it brought New York back from the BRINK. I encourage everyone who may be interested in bettering this city to read BROKEN WINDOWS by James Q Wilson & George L. Kelling both from Harvard. Start taking care of the little things and the rest will will follow! IT IS A QUALITY OF LIFE THAT MATTERS! I hope the next Mayor is reading this. I have a home and business in this city for over 10 years and in that time only once did a candidate for my Alderman stop by and talk to me. He got my vote but lost. There are a so many good people here in this small city- WE SHOULD TAKE IT BACK! And for those who want to remain complacent you get what you get.

There are any number of articulate, knowledgeable people writing and reading here, years of experience, maturity, responsibility. You are in any number of places around the city, are concerned andinformed. There is little way however to work together with anonymous postings, seeking to find a consensus.
I suggest KNW, KIngston Neighborhood Watch as a place to gather, to contribute, in addition to the other organizations you work with. Whether your long term commitment is to Kingston or not, you've clocked time here, you've earned the right to have your words put out there, (street creds) to act in concert. D'Arcy has to my mind put up the structure of organization that can be effective, and is himself adept at bringing out the best of people, a whole range of people and interests. We don't need many, but we could use a core of good people who can be seen, have a voice, the support to use modern communication, social media in a focused, effective manner. Some of you guys: step forward, see if can work face to face within a common organization. Again, I suggest Kingston Neighborhood Watch. Let's find something we can agree on and get it done. Thanks.
