Something needs to be done about parking for school pick up. I do not have the luxury or getting to the school to pick up my son an hour early just to find parking. A system needs to be put into place for school pickup . Either the school needs to give the church on Brownsville some money so we can use the lot for pick up or come up with a better system.

The original idea of the Brentwood school system was that most Brentwood Elementary school students live withing a half-mile from school, so the kids would walk to school. That is what I did when I was 6 years old rain, snow or shine - walked to school a half-mile away. I had a couple brothers to walk with me. Other kids walked with friends. It was safe back then and is still be safe today. The only thing I see needed would be a resurrection of "school safety patrol" kids (usually 5th or 6th graders) at the neighborhood street crossing, in addition to the existing crossing guard ladies at the busy streets, be sure the younger kids stayed safe from the traffic.
So I guess my point is that it would be a good thing if parents would let their kids walk to school - its good for their health - give them social time with friends, and good for the earth.
Just sayin....

Paul D, Hms, and all other Back in My Day-ers -
I walked to school when I was 6 too. My mother also left me in the car to run in and pay for gas (which was about $1.15 back then!) You could smoke in restaurants. And phones were attached to walls with cords.
Now days I can look out my window and watch my neighbors house get raided at 8am by DEA agents. I can upload YouTube videos of all the ignorant people blowing through every single stop sign on my street with my smart phone. And I can share high res digital photos on SeeClickFix of all the lovely people who park ON the sidewalk all the way up and down my street (4 blocks worth), making walking on the sidewalks for a 5 or 6 year old (or anyone!) absolutely impossible. And I can sit behind my computer screen and go on and on about how times have changed, and remind you all that Brentwood is no Mt. Lebanon folks...but I'll save my breath.
Something absolutely needs to be done with the drop off/pick up situation at Elroy. I can only assume Moore has similar issues given it's similar setting....? For those who live around the school, believe me when I tell you it is equally as frustrating for us to see your empty driveways and all of your cars parked out in the street, and to have to end up parking 2+ blocks away with younger siblings in tow to pick up a kindergartener as it is for you to have to see someone using a PUBLIC parking space in front of your house for 10 minutes in the morning and afternoon.
Some of us don't have the luxury of being able to walk with our kids to school - or the luxury of having a whole group of kids for them to walk with - or the luxury of even living on the same side of Brownsville.
I walked to school when I was 6. I lived in a true walking district though. A walking district THIS is not. We don't live in Mayberry and the safety of the kids, MY kids, comes way before a walk down memory lane.
