I am not really sure. the ordinance was passed by the town council back in 1983 or 1984. Once we got it passed, the town coordinated the signs.

That takes you to Manchester's Citizen Request System where they're set up to receive requests like yours.

The people on Prospect St. worked to long and to hard to ban the trucks on that street. Since the signs were taken down you can see the increase in truck traffic already. Town of East Hartford, do your job and take care of it!!

This is definitely still an issue. The truck traffic is increasing - still no signs although I have contacted Town Hall and the Police Department a couple of time each. Very frustrating.

Spoke with a Prospect Street resident Denise Douglas today. She tells me that some of the "no through truck" signage was removed and has been missing since Prospect was resurfaced some time ago. Now, trucks are using the street on a regular basis - rattling the windows of her home.

Douglas also said that although the number of children living on the Prospect has gone up and down over the years, there are quite a few children living there now like there was in 1983, when Keith Leon Wagar was killed after falling off his bike into the path of a truck. (See attached news clippings from the JI's archives).

Hopefully the town can restore the missing signage and at least keep through trucks off Prospect before yet another child is struck.

Granted, truck drivers are not the only problem and driver behavior probably is much, much worse now than it was in 1983. But Douglas brings up a good point. Why haven't the signs been restored? The town has an ordinance banning through truck traffic on the street. While police can't simply camp out on Prospect, the restoration of the signs certainly would help.
