Description
THE TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION OF S 32nd ST AND W BROADWAY IS DANGEROUSLY TOO SHORT [CROSSING BROADWAY]. IT IS APPROX. 10 SECONDS OR LESS. I HAVE TO CROSS THIS STREET NEARLY EVERYDAY WITH MY BABY. ONE INCIDENT: WE HAD GOT OFF THE BUS AND WERE CROSSING ON THE RED LIGHT AT A FAST PACE. CARS WERE IN THE LANES ON BROADWAY WAITING FOR THE GREEN LIGHT. I.M PUSHING MY SON IN HIS STROLLER. WE GET HALFWAY ACROSS THE STREET AND THE LIGHT CHANGES. ALL BUT ONE CAR WAITED FOR US TO CROSS. WE WERE NEARLY HIT! TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE. THE FIRST OF MANY! SOMEONE NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS TODAY! WE NEED ATLEAST 15-20 SECONDS TO CROSS. SCHOOL BUSES LET CHILDREN OFF THERE, AS WELL AS THE TARC BUS. I'VE SEEN SEVERAL NEAR-ACCIDENTS. PLEASE FIX THIS BEFORE THERE ARE FATALITIES!
THANK YOU & GOD BLESS!

Concerned Pedestrian, in addition to contacting MetroCall, you should also get in touch with two entities:
> Your Metro Council Representative
> Someone at the city's Transpiration Planning Administration -- their engineers are "Complete Street" people.
CartKY.org might have some resources.
Unfortunately, this is not an issue that you can just dial 311 for. It involves design plans beyond their control. What really needs to happen is to chop a lane off each side of Broadway, or do some other traffic calming solution that gives priority to pedestrians, not to cars driving at highway speeds.
Good luck.
