Who said they are illegal tenants? In our lane it is the owners of the houses who park their extra vehicles in the lane in front of their own garage doors because they can't fit in their own garage.

Good point! Whoever they are, they should be ticketed or towed. If there was a fire in a coach house, fire truck would have no hope at reaching it.

If there wasn't so many multiple suite homes in Clayton 90 % of the problem would be gone wait till they develop Aloha estates its going to be easier to find parking in the West end of Vancouver than Clayton.

City of Surrey, BC addressed this issue on 02/21/2014, service request # 699472.

Have the same problem. Called surrey, they seem reluctant to enforce lane parking rules but are out in full force for street parking. Had to request no parking signs to mark areas before and after lane entrances as they don't seem like intersections but are enforces like ones, with 6m clearance required. Guests at my house received 4 tickets over 3 months. Enforce all the rules or none. Thanks Surrey

Yup! It's getting ridiculous. Illegal tenants get tax-free living and free parking. The rest of us suffer and pay the bills.

All renter enjoy a "tax free" existence. This problem has very little to do with the number of people who live in this neighborhood and more with attitude of selfishness displayed by people who think their personal freedom is more important than anyone else. It is not the "illegals" who cause this problem, it is the people who live there: renter, owner or tenant.

Actually, if there were no illegal renters, there would be more street parking available. If there were more street parking available, there would be less lane parking. Until then...lane parkers need to stop being lazy and walk from an actual parking spot, even if it is a couple of blocks away.

On my block (my side) there are 14 houses. Of those five have unauthorized suites with one vehicle each. Of those remaining nine houses (without extra suite) there are an average of four vehicles. One parks in the coach house slot, maybe one in the garage and the other two on the street. The city allowed these size houses to be built on these micro lots, narrow streets and limited curbside parking. If there were not the unauthorized suites it would not solve the entire problem. My footprint in the neighborhood is one vehicle on the street. Each of my neighbors have three on the street. Who is the worse offender? We all pay the same tax and utilities.

Gosh, Clayton sucks. Lesson learned. Hopefully moving soon from these glorified apartment buildings (aka house on small lot, no privacy, too many vehicles, no enforcement etc).
