Description

At the intersection of S. Topeka Blvd. and I 470 and Kansas Avenue, it is giving the southbound Topeka Boulevard traffic a green left turn arrow to turn East onto Kansas Ave. when there is no traffic needing to turn left. They continue to get a long green light which is backing up the northbound Topeka Boulevard traffic that wants to go northbound on Topeka Boulevard or turn left, west, to merge onto I 470. This is happening between the hours of 3 PM and 4 PM every day, and I have reported this traffic light issue to you guys in the past and it has still not been fixed. The traffic is not flowing very well in this area at this time of day. There is more traffic going northbound on Topeka Boulevard then there is traffic going southbound at this time of day, probably from all the workers that get off of work at 3 PM from all the factories out south

While you are relooking at this, you still did not fix the other issue with the east bound traffic. When you want to turn north off of I-470 onto Topeka Blvd westbound & eastbound traffic signals will go green first even though there may not be any traffic at all waiting to go westbound, but will have vehicles in the left turn lane waiting to turn south on Topeka Blvd. Why not change the sequence to let the more demanding eastbound traffic go first since the left turn lane likes to backup into the left eastbound lane at times?

I have watched the intersection for the last couple of days. I have not seen the intersection operate incorrectly. Will continue to monitor to see if I can see the problem. Signal operating correctly at this time.

Just because it appears to be working correctly does not mean its currently setup or programmed correctly for the point of traffic needing more time for a green light, and less time for the direction with less demand....

I completely agree with ''Topekan". This intersection is not set up correctly for the amount of traffic traveling at this particular time of day. This is obvious to anyone who uses this light at this time of day. Come on City of Topeka, this is common sense. Would it help if we meet you at the intersection to show you what the problem is, because you obviously can't see it for yourself. And what time of day are you observing this intersection?

this intersection is still not set up or timed correctly at this time of day, between 3 and 4pm for the amount of traffic that is trying to travel in my original post.

Yes it keeps happening. The same with westbound traffic when there is little traffic compared to higher demand going east from I-470.

Going north you have 2 lanes of vehicles at times in the left turn into 470 into the left north lane so vehicles have to go into the right lane to go around the turning lanes to get into the left lane to go straight north thru the light... just like 17th and Wanamaker I have turned in and nothing gets corrected about....
