The reporter states that there is no apparent police response. Does that mean that you called the police and they didn't respond? Or do you expect them to respond even if you don't call them? If you hear gunshots, you should call 911 and report them. If the police don't respond, you should call Lt. Ray Hassett, the supervisor for our police district. His phone number is 203-946-7597.
I heard these "shots", which actually turned out to be fireworks. The police responded within minutes, even asking a gentleman on the street if he heard the shots. I have called twice before for actual gunshots, and the police responded within 1-3 minutes both times. The problem is that even if they arrive within 30 secs, most likely the person/people involved are already gone. Call the police IMMEDIATELY after hearing them: don't wait for someone else to!!!
Hi :
We are aware of the shooting in your area and I can tell you that there is an ongoing investigation into the shooting incidents in Dwight and West River. Community members such as yourself are making a difference in the neighborhood by talking and reporting to the police.
Violence in this neighborhood continues to be a major problem (see the murder around the corner and high-speed chase originating around the block in the last week or two), but the sound of gunshots is less regular.

Agree. Look what happened nearby, in broad daylight:

Ignoring the problem will only take us so far.
