Cambridge, The DCR together did a study called “The Corridors Study of Fresh Pond Parkway and Mount Auburn Street. One ‘improvement’ was the right angle intersection of Mt Auburn at Brattle. That was an ‘interim’ solution til there was a design and plan for a traffic light. When is that ‘final’ plan for the intersection going to be done?

That crosswalk across the end of Brattle St has needed to be repainted for a long time and should be redone ASAP

A raised structure would be bad there as there are also many cars turning left off of eastbound Mt. Auburn onto Brattle. A sign on Mt. Auburn westbound just before the right hand turn onto Brattle would be good - something like Slow - Yield to Pedestrians. And yes repaint that crosswalk.

I believe the plan was to widen and Make two way the roadway between island and building, then add a signal to stop traffic for left hand turns east of Mount Auburn Street onto Brattle—safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and cars. Still, something further may have to be done to slow cars on the hairpin turn to Brattle.

Longer term, we would like to look at more permanent changes to that intersection that make is safer for all modes by installing new curbing, markings, green space and other changes. Hopefully this is a project we can work on in the next year and bring design ideas to the neighborhood then.

Thank you for your response. When you consider longer term solutions I would urge one that physically compels a driver to slow down coming out of the curve onto Brattle St.

The speeding that occurs on Brattle
St. between Fresh Pond Prkwy and Mount Auburn St. is really bad. Anything that helps is greatly appreciated.

Please note the two car accident that took place at this intersection about a week ago. Evidently the result of an attempted, but failed, speedy right turn from west bound Mt. Auburn St to Brattle St.

Thank you for reporting this issue to us. We've written work orders to replace missing signage and will add additional warning signage. We anticipate this work to be completed within the next 2-3 weeks.
