  Strongly support any calming measures here, for both pedestrians and cyclists. The same near-hit experience has happened to me several times when I've been crossing at the walk with my kids. Drivers on this section really seem to be racing between Pine St. and Shelburne Rd.

  Very sorry to hear about your near miss this morning, OP!

  It generally seems safer to cross here vs at Pine/Flynn and I use this crossing with my own kids often, thank you for adding it a few years ago.

  I cross here very often around 5:30pm, which for much of the school year is around dusk. I would very much appreciate the flashing warning.

  Thats a good idea but dpw is very poorly run and there should be in that area watching traffic but i very rarely see them down there. I only see them sometimes at champlain school..

  I’m the original poster (thanks to DPW for immediately responding to my inquiry and posting it here!). I wanted to add that our next door neighbor uses a wheelchair to get around. FWIW I think it would be such a gift for her to have a safe place to cross the street—with lights or beacons if appropriate—right in front of her house. As well as some of the young families in the hood, our dear neighbor would really benefit from a crosswalk at Wells/Flynn. Thank you!

  I’m the original poster from earlier today (thank you Nicole at DPW for immediately responding to my inquiry and posting it here!). I thought I’d add: our neighbor uses a wheelchair to get around and is often crossing Flynn at Wells intersection (at her own peril!!). I think it would be such a gift for her to have a safe and well-lit crosswalk—with beacons and lights if necessary—right in front of her home. A crosswalk would benefit her tremendously as well as it would the young families in the neighborhood. Thanks!!

  There is 1 other thing I would like to mention.. There still has been nothing done about the traffic calming issue on home ave and that was repeatedly brought up to dpw by several people and they seem to ignore the people on that street as well! So like i said before, dpw is very poorly managed and should have someone new there..

  Thank you for inquiring about traffic calming. We have requested traffic and crash data to help us determine the best options moving forward. For an overview of the process, please visit https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/dpw/TrafficCalming

  We'll follow up with more information once we've completed our review of traffic and crash data, which will occur during this coming winter. The traffic calming program is very popular and there is a queue of streets ahead of this request, but we will use the winter months to develop any improvement plans for the coming year.

We're excited to let you know that we are now implementing a comprehensive asset management program which is a mostly "behind the scenes" effort. This will enable more efficient, more effective and more fiscally sound infrastructure management. There may be the occasional bug to work out, but rest assured that your issue is still in queue and assigned to the right City staffer.
