  Is the city going to do anything about this, or is the city waiting for yet another person to have a fatal accident? The silence around this issue and lack of response to the public is disheartening.

  Thank you for your input. The bi-directional shared use path was designed according to national standards and recommendations. The use of armadillos and flexposts within the buffer creates an element of vertical separation between the shared use path and vehicular travel lane which is intended to reduce travel speeds as well as enhance safety and comfort levels for pedestrians and cyclists. Bi-directional paths such as this can be found in many other cities and towns within Massachusetts. It is understood that on occasion, an emergency vehicle may need to cross the double yellow centerline to pass a vehicle, but all vehicles are expected to stop and pull over (armadillos and flex posts have been spaced out 20ft+) to allow the emergency vehicle to maneuver around the traffic, as needed. We are looking into a more permanent condition with vertical separation of the path from the roadway, and this is a longer-term effort.
